Bulk of album documents documents Carney's service in the United States Air Force during World War II in Europe, including portraits and snapshots of Carney and other soldiers on duty and during leisure time. Includes aerial combat scenes. Other photographs depict Carney while a student and with friends. Also pictured throughout the album is James A. Myl, a friend of Carney and the pilot on many of his combat missions.

Born in 1922, William Carney served in the Air Force as a gunner in World War II. Carney later taught French in the University of California system. He published three works of Gay erotic literature in his lifetime, "The Real Thing, "A Year in the Closet," and "The Rose Exterminator." Carney died in 1987, at the age of 64.
