California and Nevada pioneer. Born 1823; arrived in California, 1850. Mined gold in Nevada City. Moved to Nevada in 1863 with the silver discoveries. Lived in American Flat (outside Virginia City) where he mined silver and was active in Republican Party politics. Returned to San Francisco in 1874. Poet; author of "Songs of the Western Shore."
