Abstract:

Collection of eleven letters spanning three years in the travels of William O. Armsted, as he makes his way from Ohio to California, and then to various mining locations, including Gold Creek, Rough & Ready, and Nevada City. There are many details of his life in the West. Many letters accompanied by original envelopes. One (March 23, 1851) is written on pictorial lettersheet illustrated with vignettes of a miner's life.
