Abstract:
This collection consists of the correspondence, legal documents, financial records and receipts, and miscellaneous papers
of Victor Forni and his wife, Mamie E. Forni. Most relate to mining activities and property in the Georgetown area of El Dorado
County. Mines mentioned include: Eureka, Golden State, Three Queens, Beattie, and Hard Luck (formerly Short Handle).
The collection is organized into four series: CORRESPONDENCE (1921-1949): Incoming and outgoing interfiled in chronological
order. Most documents a land exchange initiated by M.E. Forni with the U. S. Forest Service and the Piedmont Land and Cattle
Co. LEGAL (1900-1950): Related to mining: contracts for labor, leases, and bills of sale of mining equipment (1913-1950);
Property: deeds, escrows, patents, and a homestead application. Of note is a 1905 land patent signed by Theodore Roosevelt.
FINANCIAL (1901-1949): Mining records: Pocket expense booklet and documents relative to bullion deposits; El Dorado County
property tax invoices and receipts (1901-1931); Sacramento invoices (1920); Misc.: bill for fire protection, stock purchase,
invoice for funeral. MISCELLANEOUS: Angelo Forni obituary, shopping lists.

Note:
Victor Forni was born on April 19, 1874 in El Dorado County, California. His father, Charles, and his uncle, Angelo, were
early pioneers who had emigrated from Switzerland to the Georgetown area ca. 1850. Victor received his early schooling locally
and then attended business school in the Bay Area. He returned to Georgetown where he engaged in mining activities. In 1900,
he married Mamie E. Vaughn who was the daughter of another pioneering mining family. Victor Forni died in El Dorado County
on June 4, 1949; Mamie died on Aug. 24, 1963.
