Franklin Walker's corrected manuscript of two paragraphs from the first chapter of "San Francisco's Literary Frontier," which
appeared on pages 5 and 6. The corrections are very close to the final form these paragraphs took when published.

Note:
Franklin Dickerson Walker (1900-1978) received his PhD from UC Berkeley in 1932, his dissertation being a critical biography
of California writer Frank Norris. That same year this work was formally published by Doubleday, and subsequently Walker became
recognized as the foremost authority on the history of California literature. During the course of his life he authored seven
books and edited nine on aspects of this topic, along with 41 articles and 29 book reviews. Walker also taught American Literature
at Mills College in Oakland from 1946 to 1966.
