Abstract:
Printed Special Orders no. 74, from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, Washington, [D. C.], authorizes members
and Recorder of the Board of Officers to draw commutation of fuel and quarters while on duty. The members and Recorder were
convened at West Point, New York, by Special Orders no. 264, June 5th, 1866 for the purpose of recommending changes in authorized
Infantry tactics. The order is authorized by Secretary of War, E. D. Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General, and signed by R.
Williams, Assistant Adjutant General. A holograph note at the bottom reads: Bvt. Major General E. Upton, Lieut. Colonel 20th
U. S. Infantry, Present. Holograph Special Orders no. 507, from Headquarters of the Army, Adjutant General's Office, Washington,
[D. C.], grants one year leave of absence to Brevet Major General E. Upton, Lieutentant Colonel, 25th U. S. Infantry. The
order, signed by George K. Leet, Assistant Adjutant General, has the following side notes: Paid for December 1867 Paymr [Paymaster]
