Abstract:

Minute dockets recording daily proceedings of the Police Court in San Francisco. Chronological entries show persons charged and with what crime(s); plea; and court action or ruling. Crimes include both misdemeanors and felonies, ranging from public drunkenness and disturbing the peace to assault, robbery, and murder. Presiding judges are as follows: Dept.1: Judge Edmund P. Mogan; Dept. 2: Judge Charles T. Conlan; and Dept. 4: Judge George Cabaniss.

The San Francisco Police Court was a municipal-level court that handled minor offenses, as well as initial handling of serious offenses that were subsequently referred to the Superior Court. The Deputy County Clerk served as the ex-officio Clerk of the Police Court. In 1905, there were four Police Court departments, each with a presiding judge.
