Note:

The Native Sons of the Golden West was formed on July 11, 1875 by General A. M. Winn as a monument to men and women of the Gold Rush days in California, dedicated to historic preservation and documentation. Originally membership was limited to those descended from California pioneers who arrived before admission to the union, but is now open to all native Californians. At one time the NSGW opposed Asian and Mexican immigration while supporting Native American rights, but today is open to people of all races. A sister organization is known as Native Daughters of the Golden West.
