Taylor; (2) notes on Rancho el Alisal (or Nuestra Señora de la Carmen) and the Soberanes, Hartnell and Castro families; (3) notes on the John Romie and David Jacks families; (4) sketch of the Z.B. Heywood family, pioneers in California lumber trade, who established yards in Berkeley and participated extensively in local affairs. Z.B. Heywood was associated with Captain James H. Jacobs in an early pier and ferry venture (Jacobs Landing)
