Abstract:

Contains numerous samples of bookplates from various bookplate designers around the world. Also contains a letter from renowned typographer and book designer Bruce Rogers on his letterhead stationery, responding to a request from a collector for a sample bookplate. Rogers asserts he was "never much interested in bookplates except as design and I think a collection of bookplates contain more examples of medium[?] or bad design than almost any other form of graphic arts" but encloses two samples of his own work as well as his personal bookplate designed by an Allen [?] as a token of goodwill. Some of the bookplates in the collection are marked on the verso with the name or initials of the designer but many are not. Includes one folder of bookplates designed by John S. Fass. Also includes a typescript list of the designers that have been identified in the collection.
