Abstract:

This collection documents the work of Mark R. Rosenzweig, pioneer and expert in the area of brain plasticity research, and Professor in the Deptartment of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. The collection is divided into 6 series. Series 1 contains incoming and outgoing professional correspondence. Series 2, Writings, includes reprints and publications, lecture and research notes, articles and talks, and administrative materials from publishers related to the books "Biological Psychology" and "Physiological Psychology." Series 3 consists of teaching materials. Series 4, Professional Associations and Activities, includes administrative and financial records, committee files, correspondence, and writings related to Rosenzweig's work with the International Union of Psychology Science (IUPsyS) and its U.S. National Committee, the American Psychological Association/Committee on International Relations in Psychology (APA/CRIP), and his time on the editorial board of the "Annual Review of Psychology." It also includes conference correspondence and papers. Series 5, Administrative and Biographical Materials, includes animal research lab photos; bibliographies and curriculum vitaes; and UC Berkeley administrative, research, and grant files. Series 6, Personalia, has a United States Plate Block Album filled with stamps from the 20th Century.

Mark R. (Richard) Rosenzweig served as a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1949-2003. Rosenzweig was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Rochester, N.Y. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Rochester and, after a stint in the Navy, he earned his Ph. D. from Harvard University in 1949. That same year he joined the faculty of the University of California. Rosenzweig served as president of the International Union of Psychological Science, was a long-time member of the editorial board of the Annual Review of Psychology, and won the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientifc Contribution Award in 1982. He died in Berkeley on July 20, 2009.
