Abstract:

Contains articles, drafts, and correspondence written by a journalist, Marie Elwell Onions. Onions created an independent freelance syndicate, the Fair View Syndicate, to provide subscribers a view of the construction and progress of the Golden Gate International Exposition prior to its planned opening in February, 1939. Also includes drafts from the internal Exposition publicity department regarding the Women's Board, a letter to the editor of the Oakland Post-Enquirer touting her syndicate, and an 11-page subscriber list to a publication titled "Fan-Fare."

Marie Elwell Onions (born 1903? in England) was a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and journalist who wrote for the Oakland Tribune and worked as a freelance writer. In 1938, she created the Fair View Syndicate and wrote articles about various aspects of the Golden Gate International Exposition. She wrote under several pseudonyms including, Beth Elwell, Beth Elwell Onions, Betty Elwell,
