Margot Patterson Doss was born in Minnesota on August 22, 1920. Before moving to San Francisco in 1955, Doss worked as a reporter and freelance writer in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Doss wrote two columns in the "San Francisco Chronicle," entitled, "Bay Area at Your Feet," and "San Francisco at Your Feet," for over thirty years and was the author of 14 books. She was also involved in the establishment of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in the Citizens Advisory Commission to the Point Reyes National Seashore and in the G.G.N.R.A. Doss died in Ross, California on January 15, 2003.
