Creator/Contributor:

Norberg, Arthur L. (Arthur Lawrence), 1938-, interviewer.

Abstract:

This interview with Melvin Calvin was recorded in a number of sessions between October of 1974 and March of 1978, as part of a series dealing with the development of nuclear research at Berkeley. It was conducted and edited by Arthur L. Norberg, based in part on research by Janice E. Palumbo and Robert W. Seidel. Professor Calvin's Nobel prize-winning research in photosynthesis and his views on the place of nuclear chemistry in Berkeley research program are described in this extensive interview, which provides valuable insight into the administration and activities of the Radiation Laboratory (now Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory) and the University. Much attention is devoted to the establishment and growth of the Chemical Biodynamics Laboratory.
