Mildred Albronda (1912-1998) is best known as a biographer of hearing-impaired California artists Douglas Tilden, Theophilus Hope D'Estrella, and Granville Redmond. She wrote the definitive biography of Douglas Tilden, the sculptor responsible for many monumental bronze statues in San Francisco, including the Mechanics Monument and Fountain, the California Volunteers, Admission Day, Father Junipero Serra, and the Baseball Player. Albronda was also an artist herself, a docent at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, and a charter member of Docents for the Deaf.
