Title:

Mexican War of Reform documents, 1858

Abstract:

Ten manuscript documents describing events in the Veracruz area, a stronghold of the reform forces, beginning on February 23, 1858, about a month after a coup spearheaded by General FĂ©lix Zuloaga, the choice of the generals and the Catholic clergy to be President, led to the adoption of the reactionary Plan of Tacubaya, which overturned the constitution and the reform laws of Benito Juarez, the constitutional President. The majority of documents describe events from the reactionary side, but a few describe actions of those supporting Juarez. The final entry is dated May 15, 1858.
