Margaret Wentworth Owings was born in Berkeley, Califl., in 1913; graduated Mills College in 1934; completed art studies at
Harvard University in 1935; an environmentalist, she founded of Friends of the Sea Otter, served on the California State Park
Commission and participated in many other environmental groups and efforts. Her first husband was Malcolm Stuart Millard,
with whom she had a daughter, Wendy. Her second husband was Nathaniel Alexander Owings, co-founder of the architectural firm
Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Margaret Wentworth Owings died in 1999.
Betty Millard was a prominent second-wave feminist and sister-in-law of Margaret Wentworth Owings.
