letter to Mrs. Hirschler from family servant Hiro Sawa, who had stayed behind at the house in San Francisco after the family
fled.

Note:
Linda Salz was born in 1869 in Centerville, California. She married David Hirschler on April 17, 1891, and on April 18, 1906
was living at 2701 California Street in San Francisco. Her youngest of four children, Barbarah Hart Hirschler, had been born
thirteen days earlier and Linda, as was the practice of the time, was lying in bed when the earthquake struck. Even though
the Hirschler home did not burn in the fire, the family sought refuge elsewhere in the city and finally went to Benicia, where
the Salz Family owned a tannery. Linda was an accomplished pianist, founded the Pacific Music Club, and also compiled the
Council Cookbook published by the San Francisco Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. She died in San Francisco
on September 13, 1938.
