Note:
James H. Mankins came to Placerville in 1853 while still a young boy. His father mined gold; the family traveled through the
mining region over the next few years, and into Nevada. Mankins eventually settled in the Visalia area of Tulare County and
operated an vineyard. He died on January 16, 1916 at the age of 67.
