Note:
John Marshall Pierce was born on January 1, 1831 in Glasgow, MO. He traveled overland and arrived in Diamond Springs, CA in
October of 1850. He spent the next 25 years mining and gambling in other parts of California as well as in Nevada and Utah.
In 1875 Pierce moved to a ranch in San Luis Obispo County, and died in Paso Robles on May 6, 1895.
Anna De Moines Caldwell was born in Eddyville, OH on November 9, 1846. She and her father John Edwards Caldwell, her mother
Margaret Cheney Caldwell, two siblings, and two others traveled by wagon train to California in 1853. The Caldwells settled
in San Francisco, where they spent the rest of their lives. Anna married Thomas Jefferson Curry on March 22, 1877, and died
on October 11, 1921.

Pierce diaries copied by Norman William Garrett, Sheriff of Mariposa County, 1966-1974, who was related to Pierce. Curry was
not related to Pierce, but her account (rewritten by her daughter) was in the collection of the donors and donated at same
time as the diaries.
