Note:

Frank Aleamon Leach was born in Auburn, New York on August 19, 1846. At an early age his family moved to Sacramento, California, and to Napa in 1857. Ten years later, Leach became editor of the "Vallejo Evening-Chronicle," beginning a career in newspaper journalism that culminated in his founding the "Oakland Enquirer" in 1886. Leach left journalism in 1897 to become Superintendent of the San Francisco Mint, a position he still held in 1906 during the building's successful defense against the great fire. The following year President Theodore Roosevelt named Leach Director of the United States Mint, a position he held until August of 1909. Frank Leach died on June 19, 1929.
