Abstract:

Family photograph album depicting everyday lives of various members of the Furuta family of Oakland, Calif. between the mid-1910s and mid-1920s, with an emphasis on the social and leisure activities of young men Yoichi Furuta and Denge Furuta, both in their late teens/early twenties during this time. Topics include nature outings, time with friends, baseball teams (including Fuji Club), motorcycle riding, etc. Locations are chiefly in the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere in California, with specifically identified locales including Oakland, Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais, a University of California (Berkeley?) medical building classroom, Santa Cruz and Monterey. Includes images of students at high school and college, a few young men in military uniforms (World War I) and family members at home and elsewhere. A few images includes the caption "Future D.D.S '25". One image shows family members posing at the grave of Denge (1900-1922) in Mountain View Cemetery. Among the other identified Furuta family members depicted in the album are Yuki, Ben and George Easter.
