Abstract:

Item consists of official form issued by Office of the Surveyor General attesting that attached sheets are accurate copy of originals contained in their office. Attached sheets consist of correspondence between Larkin and Mexican officials in Monterey regarding the naturalization of his children and the land grant. Original correspondence was dated between July 17, 1844 and May 16, 1846. Correspondents included Micheltorena, J.A. Sutter, Manual Jimeno, Pio Pico, etc.

Map is tracing of original showing the boundaries of the land grant on the Sacramento River between Arroyo Chico and Arroyo de los Picos (an area just above current city of Colusa).
Thomas O. Larkin, early California pioneer, arrived in California in 1832. Became successful merchant, financier and land developer. In 1844, applied to Governor Micheltorena for naturalization of his three children, and for land grant in their names. Received a grant of land on west bank of Sacramento River. Known as Children's Rancho, Larkin's Rancho or Upper Farm.
