Abstract:

Holograph account of the author's experience with William Walker and his fellow filibusters during their invasion of Roatán in the Bay Islands of Honduras in 1860. The account mentions meeting Walker and his filibuster officers Anthony Francis Rudler, Thomas Henry, and Thomas Dolan on the schooner John E. Taylor, and finding out Walker's plan to use Roatán as a base of operation in his attempt to regain Nicaragua.

William Walker was an American adventurer who engaged in filibustering by organizing private military expeditions into Latin America to establish English-speaking colonies that he could control. He became President of the Republic of Nicaragua in 1856 and ruled until 1857 when he was defeated by a coalition of Central American armies, and in 1860, he was executed by the Honduran goverment after invading Roatán in the Bay Islands of Honduras.
