Note:
The Artificial Tie Manufacturing Company received a charter from the State of California to manufacture concrete railroad
ties in 1914, and a patent application was submitted for the company by Edgar N. Goodlett. Two years later the company's charter
was revoked for non-payment of taxes. In 1918 Goodlett attempted to transfer the patent to the Artificial Tie Manufacturing
Company name. According to documents and photographs in this collection the company was based in San Francisco and had a manufacturing
facility in Los Angeles which actually made concrete railroad ties, but it is not listed in contemporary directories for either
city.
