Note:
Anastacio de Jesus Chabolla (1805-1852, sometimes spelled "Chaboya" or "Chavoya") was born in 1805 and was the son of De Anza
Expedition soldier Marcos Chabolla. He was a soldier of the San Francisco Company, married Maria Josefa Higuera in 1829, and
was granted Rancho San Juan de los Moquelumnes in 1844. After California passed to American hands, the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe
Hidalgo provided for the honoring of land grants. In 1852 the claim for Chabolla's grant was filed and patented to him in
1865. In the meantime Chabolla's nephew Antonio Valencia had killed Edward Pyle, fearing repercussions from injuring Pyle's
horse. Valencia was eventually hanged, but Chabolla was arrested for advising Valencia to murder Pyle. Judge Hester released
him for lack of evidence, but Chabolla was found hanging from a tree soon after. Rancho San Juan de los Moquelumnes passed
to Chabolla's seven children, all but one of whom sold their interest in the land.
Chabolla.
