Abstract:

Consists of newspaper clipping files relating to the Chinese and Chinese Americans, particularly in Calif. and San Francisco. For a time the reference files were held at the San Francisco Public Library and pertain chiefly to topics of local interest, including Chinatown, various community organizations, Chinese New Year and other festivals, business, and culture. County and state files contain clippings with mentions of Chinese, and often include articles or pamphlets sent by local historical societies. Biographical files relate mostly to individuals with a connection to San Francisco, and include Donaldina Cameron, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Albert Chow, Margaret Chung, Jack Manion (S.F. Police Inspector for Chinatown), and Sun Yat-sen. General subject files include topics such as Chinese exclusion, immigration, railroads, and women.
