Abstract:

Contains records of the society, including bylaws, correspondence, minutes of meetings, and voting records for officers, as well as financial records, including fund-raising documents and records of donations and ticket sales, income and disbursements, bills, receipts, and bank statements. Many of the tickets for opera and other fund-raising performances were sold in communities outside the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, Salinas, Santa Cruz, Gilroy, Stockton, Sacramento, Walnut Grove, Isleton, Fresno, Los Angeles, and neighboring small towns. Also includes some printed materials published by the Society, including The Confucian Digest.
Also contains some records of the Kung Gow School, including correspondence, and records for fund-raising and tuition.

Note:

The Confucian Society was established in 1929 by leaders of the Chinese Constitutionalist Democratic Party (CCDP) for the purpose of uniting the Chinese community in the U.S. with orthodox Confucianism. As a peripheral organization to the CCDP, the society operated the Kung Gow or Confucian School in San Francisco.
