Abstract:

Includes history of Chinese Hospital, San Francisco, published in 1963, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, along with a hundred year history of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in Hong Kong, 1870-1970. With these are a 1923 record of donations to the hospital's building committee, and an annual report for 1966, with additional undated drafts.

Note:

In 1863, Tung Wah Dispensary opened its doors at 828 Sacramento St. in San Francisco's Chinatown, the first hospital established by the Chinese since arriving in Calif. in 1848. In 1923, funds were raised from the Chinese community and a lot on Jackson St. was purchased; by the end of 1924, construction was completed and the first Board of Directors was formed.
