Abstract:

32 letters written to Alice F. (Mrs. John) Daggett of northern California between 1871 and 1924. Includes other correspondence, clippings, pen and ink art originals on paper, "Address to the Citizens of East Quogue, Long Island, New York," and "The Sultan of the East."

Illustrator and writer. Born at Granby, Quebec, April 28, 1840. In 1862 he traveled to California where he attended art school and became a cartoonist for San Franciso newspapers. In 1876 he made his home in New York where he illustrated newspapers and magazines, including Harpers, Wild Oats, and The Graphic. Noted for his series of children's books and a play featuring the adventures of brownies. "Palmer Cox's Brownies" played in New York and other major cities in the late 1880s. He died July 24, 1924 at "Brownie Castle" in Granby, Quebec.
