Note:

Oliver Hazard Perry White was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1818 or 1819. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1840, served for about three years, and married a woman named Martha J. sometime between 1843 and 1845, who by the end of 1849 had given birth to four sons. The family settled in Tipton County, Tennessee, and in 1849 O. H. P. White made the overland journey to California, arriving in Sacramento by 1850 where he worked as a merchant. His family had settled in California by 1853, during which time they lived in Marysville, and apparently in Grass Valley two years later where White was elected a trustee of the town. By 1860 the White family had moved to Sacramento, where O. H. P. worked as a forwarding agent. He died there on February 1, 1863. During the family's time in California one of the sons died, a daughter was born who subsequently passed away, and another son and daughter were born.
