Note:
Lucy Thompson, a member of the Northern California Yurok tribe, was born October 29, 1856 in Pec-Wan Village on the Klamath
River and named Che-na-wah Weitch-ah-wah. Her father was what was known as a Talth, the leaders of the tribe who were given
the true name of God. He trained Lucy in the mysteries and laws of the Yurok people, and she became a Talth herself. In 1875
she married a Caucasian man named Milton James Thompson. They lived along the Klamath River for many years, and moved to Eureka
in 1910. In 1916 she published "To the American Indian," which explained the customs, traditions and stories of the Yuroks.
Lucy died in Eureka on February 23, 1932, about a year and two months after her husband.
