Abstract:

24 official documents relating to Richard Lyons' service in the United States Navy, plus a marriage certificate. The naval documents are dated during the period of Lyons service from 1860 to 1866, but many are stamped with 1899-1901dates on the back, making it unclear whether these are original documents sent to him at the time, or were actually originated at those later dates.

Note:

Richard Lyons was born in Charleston, Massachusetts in 1841, and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1860. He was discharged in 1863, but reinlisted and served until 1866. Lyons maried Irish immigrant Annie O'Bryan in 1867 and moved with his bride to San Francisco, where his brother lived. There they had four children. Richard Lyons died in 1899, and Annie Lyons in 1912.
