Note:

Gavin McNab was born in 1863 and became a prominent attorney in San Francisco. Among his high-profile cases were the successful defense of actors Charlie Chaplin, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, and Mary Pickford, boxer Jack Dempsey, and the litigation cases of the "Lucky" Baldwin estate and the widow of whiskey distiller A. P. Hotaling. Active in politics, McNab was firmly on the side of reform during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century graft era. He died in San Francisco on December 28, 1927.
Edith Murphy was apparently related to Gavin McNab, probably his niece. She graduated from UC Berkeley during the second decade of the twentieth century, and subsequently became dietician for the San Francisco school district. Her husband was an engineer for Pacific Gas & Electric Company.
