Abstract:
Chiefly snapshot photographs of family and friends of Youki Imamura taken shortly before and during his internment in the
Poston Relocation Center in Arizona during World War II. Most images are informal portraits taken during everyday leisure
activities. Several viewa include buildings and grounds of the relocation center. Many captions refer to internees living
in Block 3 of the camp, including the Imamura family. Other views include scenes of everyday life shortly before and/or after
the subjects' internment. A small number of images include Japanese Americans in military uniforms, perhaps taken at Poston
while on leave during their service. Also includes a group photograph of the 2nd annual I.C.Y.C. Conference held March 21,
1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah (sponsored by the YWCA) and 2 photocopies of architectural plans (PIC folder 2) pertaining to
the camp buildings of Poston where the Imamura family was housed (Unit 1/Camp 1, Block 3, barracks 8C and 8D). Most individuals
depicted throughout album are identified in captions with at least their first names.
