Library, UCSD.
Photograph album titled "A book of snapshots secured during exploratory fishing trips
conducted by South Seas Marine Products Limited in the waters of the Fiji Islands
(South-Western Pacific)." Contains 115 photoprints taken to reflect the activities of the
company's surveys of fishing waters during 1946 and 1947. The purpose of the surveys was
to establish whaling and tuna export industries, and the work disclosed the presence of
extensive schools of tuna and bonito, as well as an annual run of humpback whales. The
album is accompanied by a carbon copy of a typescript letter, signed, from Harold Gatty,
regarding an agreement with the South Seas Marine Products Project Syndicate; and two
maps of the Fiji Islands, 1914 and 1939.
