Abstract: Henry Baker Lynch (1879- ) was a hydraulic engineer who worked for the Water and Light departments of Glendale and Burbank
(1909-19), the Glendale Water System, Crescenta Mutual Water Company, and the Haines Canyon Water Company at Tujunga. The
collection consists of manuscript notebooks, photographs, maps, charts, and related printed material concerning rainfall,
floods and flood control in Southern California collected by Lynch during the course of his career in Los Angeles.

Biography
Lynch was born in 1879; attended University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University, where he studied engineering;
came to Glendale in 1907; became manager of Water and Light departments of Glendale (1909-19), also served part of the time
in the same capacity for the city of Burbank; in 1914 became manager of Glendale Water System; began serving as a consulting
engineer with an office in Los Angeles in 1919; in 1920 was an engineer for Crescenta Mutual Water Company, which supplied
the city of La Crescenta; became engineer for the Haines Canyon Water Company at Tujunga, later serving as president and manager
of the company.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of manuscript notebooks, photographs, maps, charts, and related printed material concerning rainfall,
floods and flood control in Southern California collected by Lynch during the course of his career as a hydraulic engineer
in Los Angeles. Also contains some material on the Pacific Slope and the Great Basin. Subjects include the Los Angeles Aqueduct;
the floods of 1914,1919,1934,1938,1943, and 1952; rainfall records, 1768-1960; dams; water supply; reservoir sites; and washes.
