Abstract: Organizational records of Santa Barbara California's Lobero Theatre, originally constructed in 1873 and reorganized and rebuilt
in 1924 by a group of community members. The county owned theater is run by the Lobero Theatre Foundation and has hosted over
4,000 productions since 1924, including dance, theater, music, film and community events. Records include administrative and
financial records, building files for the landmark building designed by Goerge Washington Smith, production files, photographs,
clippings and scrapbooks. The production files are comprehensive and include most of the major cultural icons of the 20th
century.

Scope and Content
The Lobero Theatre Archives are divided into ten series: I: Administration; II: Board; III: Building Files; IV: Clippings;
V: Committees; VI: Production Records; VII: Photographs and Posters; VIII: Video/Audio Tapes, IX: Scrapbooks and X: Artifacts.
Each series is descibed below under series descriptions. Highlights of the collection include a complete run of production
files from 1924-1997, with details on each event at the Lobero. Early production records are in scrapbooks, while later events
have a folder of information. The collection also contains architectural records and building files for the landmark building
designed by George Washington Smith, administrative records of the Lobero Theatre's administration and board.
