Abstract: Samuel Lusker McCroskey (1893-1960) was a brigadier general in the U.S. Army and Commandant of the Biarritz American University in France. After retiring from the Army, he joined Douglas Aircraft as a project engineer on the Nike and Hercules missiles. The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, military awards, memorabilia, and related printed matter accumulated by McCroskey while serving in the Army and later as Commandant of the Biarritz American University. There is also a brief summary of McCroskey's work at Douglas Aircraft Company following his retirement from the Army.

Biography

McCroskey was born on February 4, 1893 in Colfax, Washington; graduated from Washington State College, 1916; commissioned as U.S. Army captain, 1918; commissioned as brigadier general, 1943; received Legion of Merit, French Legion of Honor, and British O.B.E.; served as Commandant of Biarritz American University in France; retired from Army and joined Douglas Aircraft as project engineer on Nike and Hercules missiles, 1950; died June 4, 1960.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of correspondence, photographs, military awards, memorabilia, and related printed matter accumulated by McCroskey while serving in the Army and later as Commandant of the Biarritz American University. Also includes an unpublished manuscript, Biarritz American University and a brief summary of McCroskey's work at Douglas Aircraft Company following his retirement from the Army.
