Biography
Holway R. Jones was a librarian at the University of California, Berkeley (1951-1963) and
later at the University of Oregon (1963-1982). He held many offices in the Sierra Club
between 1959 and 1978, serving as Associate Secretary (1959-1960), a member of the Board
of Directors (1973-1976), and as "Fifth Officer" (1974-1976). Jones gathered the
materials in this collection for use in writing John Muir and the Sierra Club: The Battle
for Yosemite (1965).
Scope and Content
The Holway Jones Papers consist largely of Sierra Club Board of Directors' Minutes
(1907-1982) and related materials.
