Series 1.  Correspondence, 1968-1990.

Physical Description: 0.8 linear ft.

Series Scope and Content Summary

Correspondence between LGI and various political bodies and commercial corporations chronicle the projects which LGI supported and opposed within the context of the goal of preserving open space. Early correspondence (1968-1977) originates primarily from LGI's first president James W. Dilley and concerns Orange County and Laguna Beach land development and preservation. Preservation of Sycamore Hills in the Laguna Greenbelt and official recognition of the greenbelt concept by government is covered extensively in these letters. California coastal preservation, scenic parks, fundraising and law suits are other issues addressed. Correspondence between 1978 and 1985 documents LGI presidencies of Thomas Alexander, Carl Johnson, Jon S. Brand and Terry Timmons and LGI positions on land development in Laguna Greenbelt, San Joaquin Transportation Corridor and Aliso Water Management Agency. Later letters (1985-1990) pertain to the presidency of Elisabeth Brown and LGI positions in that period regarding Irvine Coast, San Joaquin Corridor, Laguna Heights and Moulton Ranch.
