    Scope and Content

    The collection consists primarily of letters written by famous English authors and English clergymen, with a few other nationalities represented also. In some instances there are autographs only, or portions of letters. The collection, originally mounted in two volumes, was transferred to The Bancroft Library from the Rare Books and Special Collections Department in 1970.
    Most of the portraits were removed and cataloged separately as BANC PIC 1971.002
