    Acquisition Information

    The Arnold Bennett Collection was originally a part of the large Ogden Library, purchased by the University of California in 1957. It was transferred to The Bancroft Library in 1970 with the amalgamation of the manuscript holdings of the Rare Books and Special Collections Department with those of The Bancroft Library.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of letters written to Bennett, primarily by other English authors; typed carbon copies of his letters written in reply; original Bennett letters addressed to his bookbinder, T. E. Caley; holograph MS of a short story, Mr. Jack Hollins and Destiny; and binding instructions for books in his library.
    Letters written to Bennett are arranged alphabetically; letters by him, chronologically.
