These papers were given to the Library by Mr. Blaisdell, May 19, 1967.

Scope and Content Note

These papers relate mainly to Blaisdell's directorship of the International House, and include correspondence, clippings, some pertaining to trips made under the auspices of the House. To a lesser degree some materials relate to his earlier career as minister. A key to arrangement follows, and a partial list of correspondents is appended to end of report.

Biography Note

Allen Carrier Blaisdell, founder and first director of Berkeley's International House, received his primary education in Beloit, Wisconsin, and in Claremont, California. After obtaining his degree from Pomona, he went on to the Union Theological Seminary, graduating in 1923. He then accepted posts in churches in Utica, New York, and South Hadly Falls, Massachusetts, until 1927 when he became assistant director of the International House in New York City. In 1928 he arrived in Berkeley to establish an International House for foreign students on the West Coast.
