Contains correspondence from JCSS chairman and consultants proposing JCSS members to sit on the GIEC, a few letters from those accepting GIEC appointments, a report sent by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute explaining its position on seismic safety planning, and correspondence from the GIEC chairman to interested parties describing the functions and organization of the GIEC.

Recommendations for interagency cooperation in the fields of earthquake research, disaster preparedness, and seismic safety. Spells out areas to be investigated and reports to be prepared by different State agencies and private groups, such as the Earthquake Engineers Research Institute.

Scope and Content Note

Arranged in terms of what section of the first report they refer to. Therefore, correspondence involving section 1, part a come before correspondence dealing with section 1, part b.
The first report required certain State agencies to carry out investigations and provide reports. This series is composed of incoming correspondence from these agencies and the committees and sub-committees of the GIEC, either providing progress reports on their investigations or the final reports called for by the GIEC final report recommendations.

64. SUGGESTED SEISMIC SAFETY ELEMENT GUIDELINES. 1972.

Section 65302 of the Government Code requires local officials to develop a seismic safety element--an identification and appraisal of seismic hazards. Series contains third draft of GIEC guidelines for such an element.

Intra-Committee correspondence contains reports sent between Committee members, copy of a report sent by the chairman to the members from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute explaining their progress in the study of the Manaqua, Nicaraqua Earthquake.

Report contains suggestions for state interagency coordination in earthquake preparedness, proposed postearthquake studies and suggestions for earthquake engineering research.
