    Scope and Content

    This collection of papers, some from the T. W. Norris Collection and some purchased from Harold B. Holman in Dec. 1960, relates mainly to Johnson's difficulties, while Governor of California, arising from the 1856 Vigilance Committee in San Francisco. The Papers were arranged chronologically. A partial list of correspondents follows.
