Description
The Records of the American Academy of Pain Management are divided into two series, Organizations and Administrative. Both series have been maintained in the order in which they were received. The Organizations Series (1988-1993) is organized in loose alphabetical order by folder title, which generally contains the name of a particular organization with which AAPM has had correspondence. The Administrative Series (1989-1997) is loosely organized by topic.
Background
The American Academy of Pain Management, established in 1988 by Richard S. Weiner, is a nonprofit credentialing organization providing several different levels of certification to practitioners in all areas of pain management. Certification by AAPM is based on education, experience, and, since 1992, a written examination. Accredited individuals and programs abide by the Academy's code of professional conduct and patient bill of rights, participate in continuing education, and must be recertified every four years. AAPM hosts an annual conference for its members.
