History

From its founding in 1851 to the present, Santa Clara University has had a tradition of awarding students for academic excellence, outstanding oratorical and literary skills, and service to the community. The medals and awards in this collection reflect this tradition of rewarding excellence.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Santa Clara University Medals and Awards Collection includes 57 medals, awards, and pins dating from 1854 to 1989. They include special prizes, such as the Nobili Medal and the St. Clare Medall; ordinary prizes, such as the Religion and Arts Medal and Arithmetic Medal; and organization medals and pins such as Sodality Medals. This collection also includes commemorative medals celebrating significant events.

The Medals and Awards Collection consists primarily of individual medals and awards, followed by the following series:
