Biography
Born in New Hampshire, John Albert McIntire came to California in 1856 and
joined his father in mining gold at Sutter Creek, Amador County. In 1864, he moved to Sacramento and began working for the
firm of Newton Booth and Company, importers and wholesale grocers. Later he became the firm's president. In 1892, on the death
of Newton Booth, he sold the business for the heirs and became interested in Amador County mining affairs. He wanted to put
gold mining on a secure financial base by consolidating many previously competitive and disparate mining companies along the
Mother Lode. He died November 2, 1931.
