    Scope and Content

    The Tuthill family papers, which cover the years 1799 to 1879, consist primarily of letters written to Louisa and Cornelius Tuthill; Mary E. Tuthill's autograph album containing signatures of prominent contemporaries; Sarah J. Tuthill's commonplace book; MS of Epitome of Ancient Geography by Cornelius Tuthill; and passports and other miscellaneous items. The collection was given to the University of California Library in 1958 and transferred to the Manuscripts Division of The Bancroft Library from Rare Books and Special Collections. Lists of the more prominent people represented in the letters and in the autograph album follow.
